Trouble combining videos into one when some are widescreen and some are fullscreen?

I am trying to combine some music videos into one video file to burn to DVD. Some of them are fullscreen and some are widescreen. All the softwares I have tried crop off some of the fullscreen and squash the extreme widescreen into a partial widescreen video. Does anyone know any software that would allow me to keep both aspect ratios when combining these. Or is there a software that would allow me to add "black bars" to the sides of my fullscreen videos to make them "widescreen"?

You can do it with VirtualDUB (free)

Check it out

The "problem" is, it requires AVI as input and also will save to AVI, in which case might not be worth the hassle for you (since you're trying to get a DVD-MPEG after all in the end).

In case you need something that can take more than AVIs and also output directly to DVD format...

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress

It's not free however.
