Photos and videos - best application to use?

I have taken many photos and videos recently (short videos on my digital still camera and longer videos on my digital video camera) and now want to put them together to make a record of my trip. Suggestions as to which would be the best application to use (and reasons why) are appreciated

if you dont want to spend any money and if you have a mac, i suggest iMovie 08. But, if you have a spare 200 and a mac get final cut express HD. It is a low cost professional movie making program. If you have a pc, Windows Movie Maker sucks but it will put clips together. Or if you have a pc, downoad the dmo of one of the vegas's.
