Transferring videos from Panasonic MiniDV camcorder to PC via USB?

I have a Panasonic GS250 camcorder. I have been trying to transfer some of my videos (captured on MiniDV) to my PC through the software they provided (MotionDV, I think), but I am unable to get the videos. Does anyone with any MiniDV camera know how to transfer the videos?





I was able to get the pictures in the SD Card with Webshots Image Transfer tool that popped up when I plugged in the USB wire. But no video. :-(





IIRC, the camcorder came without a Firewire cable. Do I need to buy one or can I get by with the USB that I got?

I had a similar problem with my Panasonic PV-GS300.





I had to simply set my camcorder to playback mode before plugging in the USB to the computer. I have no idea why the "connect to pc" mode would not work for video - this mode would only work with my pictures on the SD card.
