Do British videos work on French video players?

Are French video recorders different to British ones and will a British video play on a French system? Somebody on eBay (French) wants to buy some videos from me (British) and I need to know that they will work. Thanks xx

Do British videos work on French video players?
If you are talking video tape then no

if you are talking dvd then yes as they are Region 2

which covers Europe.
Reply:i dont think so. Most modern videoplayers have the option to switch between types though.
Reply:No NO No No NO unless your player can play all regions.

Region code Area

Region 0 Informal term meaning "playable in all regions", "region free" or simply "all regions". There is no region 0 code as such; instead, every region code flag is set, making the disc playable worldwide.[1]

Region 1 Bermuda, Canada, the Cayman Islands, United States and U.S. territories

Region 2 Albania, Andorra, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, European Union, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, French Guiana, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Iraq, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia (the Former Yugoslav Republic), Malta, Moldova, Principality of Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom (Channel Islands) Vatican City State, Yemen

Region 3 Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, and Taiwan

Region 4 Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Oceania, and South America (except French Guiana)

Region 5 The rest of Africa, Former Soviet Union, the Indian subcontinent, Mongolia, and North Korea, Seychelles

Region 6 Mainland China

Region 7 Reserved for future use (found in use on protected screener copies of MPAA-related DVDs, and "media-copies" of pre-releases in Asia)

Region 8 International venues such as aircraft, cruise ships, etc.[1]
Reply:it depends on the the encoding. in UK we use PAL but apparently france use something called SECAM

"The system used in North America is NTSC. Western Europe, Australia and Eastern South America use PAL. Eastern Europe and France use SECAM"

my guess is they will not work.
Reply:British Tapes are recorded in PAL, French are in NTSC, I think. Your player may play both if you are lucky.
Reply:The SECAM system works perfectly well on PAl screens, but in black and white.

BUT a SECAM video recorder will not play PAL VHS tapes, unless it's multi format.
Reply:no chance mate!

over in france they use the secam sytem where as the uk use pal ty system.

the frenchman will only be able to watch your vids if he has a vcr that plays pal and a compatible tv (luckily lots of modern flat screens are multi system these days).

you can get vcr that play all systems for around 150euros but obviosly you would be slightly mad for the sake of a few videos
